Kanban is back in Hamburg

The time has come – Hamburg is once again getting an event all about evolutionary change! And the whole thing will take the form of a barcamp – inexpensive, barrier-free and in direct exchange with each other. An excellent format for increasing knowledge together, exchanging ideas and passing on your own knowledge. But how did this come about?

A brief outline of the history

2011 – 2019 · Lean Kanban Central Europe

In the 2010s, there was a Lean Kanban conference for the European region. First in Munich (2011) and Vienna (2012), then in Hamburg in 2013 and 2014 and in Munich in 2015. From 2016 until the last LKCE in 2019, THE conference for Lean and Kanban took place in Hamburg again. In 2020, the world changed almost abruptly, and with it the world of Kanban conferences.

2020 – 2021 · Kanban Community Days

Everything moved online, and so did the Kanban conferences. In 2020 and 2021, the Kanban Community Days took place online. These two years also succeeded in attracting many high-calibre speakers. Nevertheless, after the end of the Kanban Community Days 2021, the first signs of fatigue of a very organisation-intensive conference form became apparent, and so no more KCDs took place in 2022.

In the same breath, however, the first idea of a Kanban bar camp came up as soon as in-person events were possible again. Like all good ideas, however, it took a little longer to mature, as you now know.

2023 – 2024 · Kanban Days

Two years later, Inside Agile stepped into the breach and organised two online conferences in 2023 and 2024. There were some very interesting presentations there too, this time only on one day each. With good success.

In 2025, the plan was to organise a Kanban conference for German-speaking countries in presence for the first time since 2019. Unfortunately, the Kanban Days 2025 were cancelled in mid-January.

The present: The KANBANcamp opens its doors

So now the KANBANcamp. A barcamp without fixed speakers. All participants are also contributors, bringing their knowledge and perspectives and engaging in dialogue with each other. With a location sponsor with an affinity for Kanban.

Can that work? We are convinced that it can. The risk is low, and barcamps have proven that they can deliver high added value even with small numbers of participants. In the worst case, there is an intensive two-day exchange on our favourite change method. In the best case scenario, there will be an intensive two-day exchange on our favourite change method with a lot of networking on top!

See you in Hamburg this autumn?
